Tulip Mania

As you may or may not be aware, there was in the 17th century, predominantly in Holland, a fad for tulips and tulip bulbs. Vast sums of money exchanged hands in what can only be compared to something like NFTs today. It became a subject of some familiarity throughout Europe around 1634, but, like many financial hot tickets, the bubble burst in 1637. However, by that time entire fortunes had been made (and lost), since a single bulbs could go for  many times over the wages of a single worker for a full year.  The craze is known to history as Tulip Mania.

Here at Chez Interesting Times we are having our own Tulip Mania. I've planted a dozen of each of the varieties shown which are all from Brecks.

Red Dress tulip, Silver Parrot tulip, Angelique tulip, Bigi Brasa tulip

Additionally, I have ordered from their sales stock some Cranberry Apply Crunch tulip mix, for the upper bed, and Passion Play tulip for the front mailbox bed. There are also some Dutch Irises to come, Bellflowers, and a mix of Alliums, as my few purple Alliums from this Spring did fantastically in the front border. Usually at this time of year I'd be focused on Christmas, but somehow I'm already dreaming of Spring.
